Theory of Style was a book originally published in conjunction with the exhibition A Tribute to Style near Munich in 1996. CHEECH H and TECHNO169 (STONE), both first-generation painters, exchanged letters and thoughts about style for years and together with SCUM (CEMNOZ) published the first in-depth analysis of letterforms, different styles and their origins.
Although the techniques have been further developed, the design of the 26 letters of the alphabet according to New York traditions is still the basis for most graffiti painters, in one way or another. The analytical content did not lose its importance, so making it available again some 30 years later seems completely legitimate.
The authentic 90s layout by SMAL (Mirko Borsche) as well as the content were left almost untouched, apart from minor corrections. To preserve the original aesthetic, the translation was not only added, but made into a separate book, so the content is now available in English for the very first time.
Featuring works by: BOMBER, DAZE, CHEECH H, PHASE2, DELTA, TECHNO169 (STONE), BANDO, DAIM, SHOE, SMAL, ATOME, BATES, SCUM (CEMNOZ), AMOK, PUPPET, SKENA, PAZE, CALEB, DARCO and NEON.
