In 2012, train painter Aurel Johannes Marx planned to paint 100 trains in 31 days. By traveling around the continent and checking the different metro systems, he found the perfect conditions in Rome.

That meant: spending a month in Rome, having access to all the places, emptying 3000 cans, two photographers for documentation. Or in short: the perfect conditions to complete this insane mission. 

While his companions took their time and painted one painting each evening, he had to paint two, three or four in a row. When that failed, it was necessary to do even more paintings the next evening, just to reach the intended quota. Getting home from places, often 150 km away, and waiting at Termini or Ostiense station every morning to take pictures, became part of the daily routine.

VIVA ROMA is an authentic, emotional and self-reflective story of the failures of one of Europe's most active and innovative train painters. Based on the original travel diary, he looks back on a journey that changed his life and became his personal coming-of-age story.
