6 things you can do with POSCA pens

6 things you can do with POSCA pens

POSCA pens contain an opaque, odorless, water-based paint that can be used for many different types of creative projects and works on many different types of materials. In this guide, we list 6 different tips on things you can do with POSCA pens!

  1. Paint on clothes, shoes and textiles. POSCA pens can be used to paint on textiles! Paint your design on the desired garment, fabric shoes or similar. Once your design has dried, you can iron the back of the garment to make your design more permanent. If you are painting canvas shoes, you can spray them with a water resistant spray for canvas shoes. The color in POSCA pens is waterproof when dry so you can wash the garment. The color will fade slightly over time.

  2. Paint your own design on glass. The POSCA pen contains a highly pigmented color that dries matte, but you can fix the color on smooth surfaces with a finish. Paint your design on the glass, let dry and place the glass in the oven at 160 degrees Celsius for 45 minutes. Once the glass has cooled, you can apply any varnish, such as Montana Tech T1000 Varnish gloss for a glossy finish.

  3. Paint graffiti with POSCA pens. POSCA pens have been popular in graffiti circles since the late 80s. This is due to their high coverage and the fact that you can paint layer upon layer without it showing through. Perfect for graffiti!

  4. Paint your porcelain and ceramics with POSCA pencils. It doesn't matter here if you happen to paint incorrectly, the paint is easy to wipe off on smooth surfaces before it hardens. After you design your porcelain or ceramic, you can harden your design to make it permanent.

Ceramics are fired in an oven at 220 degrees Celsius for 45 minutes.

Porcelain is hardened in the oven at 160 degrees Celsius for 45 minutes.

When the product has cooled, you can apply a layer of spray varnish!

  5. Paint on plastic such as mobile phone cases and cases for headphones! Choose a glossy or matte finish with spray paint. Allow the first coat of spray paint to dry before applying another.

  6. Paint on wood such as skateboards with POSCA pencils! When you paint with POSCA on porous surfaces such as wood, you really only need to paint the surface if you want it to be more wear-resistant. We recommend Montana Tech T1000 Varnish gloss spray!

How to use a POSCA pen?

  • Shake the pen. Inside the pen is a small ball that mixes the paint when you shake it.
  • Pump the paint into the tip by pressing it on a scrap piece of paper until the tip is filled with color.
  • While using the pen, you can shake it (with the cap on) and pump out more color.
  • Allow the paint to dry for a few minutes between layers.
  • Store the pen with the cap on.

Do you want to change the tip of your POSCA pen?

You can do that easily with spare tips that are available to buy in most sizes. Carefully pull out the tip and replace it with a new one.

Has the tip of your POSCA pen dried up?

Do not worry! If your tip has dried out, you can easily fix it by putting the tip in a glass of water for a few minutes. Then the tip becomes soft again and can be used as usual.
