  • About Clairefontaine

Papeteries de Clairefontaine started its production in 1858 in Étival-Clairefontaine in northeastern France. They made use of the leftover scraps of fabric and rags from the nearby textile factories, something you couldn't believe would lay the foundation for one of the most important factories in the region. In 1880, the production of envelopes and thereafter notebooks started, something that still constitutes a large part of the company's production today. In our range from Clairefontaine you will find quality paper and sketchpads made in France.

All papers, drawing pads and books go through and solid quality assurance before they go on sale. This works especially well for Clairefontaine in particular, as they manage the entire production themselves in their factory. The production is not only quality assured but also environmentally conscious. Clairefontaine works actively towards reducing emissions, aquaculture and the use of hazardous substances during the manufacturing process. The company actively participates in the development of French forests by managing several hundred hectares of fir trees in the Vosges.

Calirefontaine has the labels PEFC, BLUE ANGEL, FSC & APUR.
